Palm Springs was the perfect location for the nurturing of the architectural concept called Mid-Century Modernism, the idea that the home was a factory for living. Houses had an industrial touch, featuring metal and gray/black colors with splashes of bright greens and oranges. This form of architecture brought the outside in, blurring the distinction between in and out.
The Villa Alejo penthouse called P3 has recently been remodeled to incorporate these ideas. This "factory for living" includes a restaurant-style kitchen sink, stainless steel appliances and beams. The light into the condo comes from all over, and there is outside seating in front and back, the back with a view of Mount San Jacinto.
About the Penthouse
This unique vacation rental condo sleeps up to 4 and is available in one month blocks only, due to homeowner restrictions.
Villa Alejo made quite an architectural splash when it was built in 1966 in the Modernist manner. It attracted the overflow crowd from the adjacent Movie Colony, visitors which included Frank Sinatra and the Kennedy clan. It's just a block from the main downtown street in Palm Springs. You can park your car and never have to get in it again; the place is heavy with decent eateries and there's always the street fair on Thursday night to make you want to open your wallet for some handcrafted goods or great foods.
The penthouse is on the third (top) story of Villa Alejo. Air conditioning and insulated curtains make it cool enough for enjoyoable summer vacations when the outside temperature soars.
